It is known that Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo released in theaters last weekend. The film reported exceptional revenues at the box office in the first weekend.
But cut to now, there is a trend with the name ‘Leo Scam’ on Twitter where people are alleging that there is an elaborate operation in place to project Leo as a hit while in reality, it is running entirely on fake collections.
First, there is the allegation that ComScore, a revenue tracking site has largely inflated the collections of Leo. This was regarded as a reliable tracker in the Tamil market, but it came under criticism as many argued that they pumped up the box office numbers of Leo.
And then, a few Rajinikanth’s fans are sharing photos that Jailer sold more tickets than Leo on Book My Show, but the revenues of the latter outweigh the former. They allege that Vijay’s team is pumping up the numbers.
Then there is a video that says there are proxy bookings to show that Leo theater is full to capacity but in reality, there is no one in the theater. They are saying that proxy booking is being used to trick movie-goers into thinking theaters are fast filling.
As a result, the hashtag #LeoScam has started to trend big time on Twitter. This has caught on aggressively in the social media space.
