Coolie Wave Continues: Another Record Deal Locked

Coolie

The Coolie wave continues to dominate film industry trade discussions. After locking in record-breaking theatrical deals in the Telugu states and overseas markets, Rajinikanth’s first-ever collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj is now generating huge buzz in Kerala.

Industry sources reveal that the Kerala theatrical rights for Coolie are currently being negotiated for an unprecedented Rs. 18 crores. If finalized, this would become the highest-ever deal for a Tamil film in the state.

The current record is held by Vijay’s upcoming film GOAT at Rs. 17 crores, with Leo close behind at Rs. 16 crores.

Several leading distributors are reportedly competing for the rights, driven by the film’s massive pre-release hype and brand power.

But with such a high asking price comes considerable risk. For distributors to break even, Coolie would need to gross more than Rs. 40 crores in Kerala alone — a feat achieved by only a few Tamil films, such as Jailer and Leo.

So, what’s driving this high-stakes confidence? It starts with the star power of Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj teaming up for the first time.

Add to that Anirudh’s music, a packed star cast, and a top-tier technical team — and the film is already being seen as a sure-shot blockbuster.

The excitement is expected to grow further with the audio launch, tentatively scheduled for July 27. Fans are already anticipating a grand musical reveal that could further amplify the buzz.

As the film gears up for its August 14 release, Coolie is no longer just a Tamil film — it’s turning into a full-fledged pan-India event, with a worldwide box office potential of Rs. 800–1000 crore gross.
