Set in modern-day Mumbai, Monkey Man follows Kid (played by Patel), an ex-convict experiencing the harsh realities of India’s caste system. Kid’s childhood memories of his loving mother and stories about Lord Hanuman contrast with his adult life as an underpaid waiter.
The film draws parallels between the criminals in Kid’s city and the villains from the Indian mythology he loved as a child. The Monkey Man trailer reveals Kid’s transformation into a masked cage fighter, resembling the action style of John Wick, as he sets out to eliminate criminals.
