Renowned music director Raj (Raj-Koti fame) breathed his last on Sunday due to a heart attack at his residence in Kukatpally. Raj’s real name is Totakooru Somaraju. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Raj’s eldest daughter is a software engineer, while the second daughter, Prasad Babu, married her boyfriend. The third daughter is pursuing a career in singing.
Raj and Koti, the music duo, made a significant impact in cinema music, winning numerous accolades. Over two decades, their music touched the hearts of music lovers. The loss of his partner deeply saddened Koti. Several film celebrities expressed their grief on social media.
Raj Koti composed many memorable songs, contributing to over 180 films since the 1982 film “Pralaya Garjana.” Their collaboration lasted until 1999. Their notable works include “Mutha Mestri,” “Bava Bavamaridi,” “Govinda Govinda,” “Hello Brother,” “Kodama Simham,” “Yamudiki Mogudu,” “Lankeswarudu,” “Karthavyam,” “Bangaru Kutumbam,” and “Pokiri Raja.”
Due to various reasons, Raj’s association with Koti ended, and he composed music for a few films independently. He provided music for films like “Sisindri,” “Ramudochadu,” “Premante Idera” (background score), “Chinni Chinni Aasha,” and others. He also portrayed a comedic role in “Takkari Donga,” starring Mahesh Babu.
We offer our deepest condolences to the great musician. May you rest in peace!
