New 100 Cr Film From Weakest South Industry

Manjummel Boys

In just 12 days after its release on 22 February, the Malayalam movie “Manjummel Boys” directed by Chidambaram made history by becoming the first film of 2024 to gross over ₹100 crore worldwide.

This accomplishment marks it as the fourth Malayalam film to join the elite ₹100 crore club, following “Pulimurugan” (2016), “Lucifer” (2019), and “2018: Everyone is a Hero” (2023).

The success of “Manjummel Boys,” along with Premalu (80 crores) and Bramayugam (50 crores), has breathed new life into the Malayalam film industry. In the domestic Kerala market only, “Manjummel Boys” raked in over ₹47 crore.

The film also made a significant impact in Tamil Nadu, where it provided relief to theaters after a dry spell following the Pongal season. With references to the Tamil cult movie “Guna” (1991) and actor Kamal Hassan, it resonated well with the Tamil audience.

The movie surpassed the collection of “Lal Salaam”, becoming the third-highest grosser of 2024 in Tamil Nadu. It grossed up to ₹15 crore from 221 screens in the state within 11 days. The film has done a business of $4 Million from overseas markets.

Meanwhile, “Premalu” is also on track to reach the ₹100 crore milestone, having already collected around ₹80 crore gross worldwide.
