Cameos have been one of the biggest talking points around Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 for months. Like the first film, the sequel brings together popular stars from different industries to help Tiger Muthuvel Pandian whenever he needs them.
The first Jailer featured Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff in key cameo roles. Jailer 2 was also expected to bring back these stars, along with several new faces like Hrithik Roshan. Many of them appeared as expected, but some actors who had shot for the film either did not make it to the final cut or had very little screen time.
Reports suggest that Tamil comedian Santhanam had several comedy scenes planned for the second half, especially during Mithun’s birthday episode, but most of his portions did not make it into the film. Vijay Sethupathi reportedly appeared in just one scene with a single dialogue, while Mohanlal’s role was also limited to a few scenes and one dialogue. Hrithik’s cameo also looked very rushed, with no proper buildup or impact.
Sivakarthikeyan is also said to be among those whose scenes were removed during editing.
Now, the big question is what the makers plan to do with these deleted portions. Will they add them to the OTT version or save them for Jailer 3?
The latter possibility cannot be ruled out, as the third instalment could follow a similar formula, with several stars joining forces to help Rajinikanth’s character.
Moreover, Jailer 2’s climax reportedly establishes the importance of Vijay Sethupathi’s character to Vidya Balan’s Kaantha. This could be a hint that his role may have more significance in the next film.
For now, there is no official confirmation about the deleted scenes or whether they will be released later. Fans will have to wait and see whether these cameos get another chance to make an impact.
