The continuing confrontation between the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association(TTOA) and Kamal Haasan over the issue of the DTH release of his masterwork ‘Viswaroopam’ has just taken a new turn. As it was widely know already, the TTOA has decided to boycott all of Haasan’s films in Tamil Nadu in the event of his releasing ‘Viswaroopam’ on DTH. It has now emerged that Popular Cineplex Devi Theatres have offered to screen Vishwaroopam.
If facts are observed, it has been known that the theatre owners have their theatre names listed in the movie’s ads in the newspapers announcing the release date of January 11th which shows that the Devi theatres are against the guidelines that the TTOA have requested from its members. It is now suspected that this move can trigger an effect where other theatres may as well take the same decision and give the film a big release in Chennai. Be that way or not, it certainly has added a new twist to the tale.
