Mani Ratnam’s sheen as a filmmaker had been fading away and we are thinking that his magic was a thing of the past, ‘Nawab’ (‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ in Tamil)came only to revive the hopes of his die-hard fans. The film has grossed $500 K in the US market to be the second best after the Superstar’s ‘Kaala’.

The number is excellent for Tamil films as they have a limited market in the US contrary to the Telugu films. Nowadays, half a million is a common thing for even small films in Telugu in the US market. But, the scenario is different for Tamil films and hence, half a million is considered a big number for Mani Ratnam‘s latest release ‘Nawab’ starring Aravind Swamy, Aditi Rao Hyderi, Vijay Sethupathi in the lead.
Coming to the Telugu version of the movie, the verdict is totally the opposite. Going by the numbers available so far, the movie is a disaster in the Telugu States. In the US, the movie is going great and we can expect it to collect more in the coming days. Anyway, it’s good to see a Mani Ratnam’s movie faring well, after quite a while.
