Peddi Breakeven: Mythri Makers Overconfident or Strategic?

Ram Charan Peddi film still

There are still strong rumors about a possible delay despite Ram Charan putting all speculation to rest by confirming that Peddi is very much on track for its April 30 release. The actor clarified that only one song remains to be shot and that production is progressing smoothly as per schedule. Ram Charan is extremely confident about Peddi being a film he will be proud of.

Adding to the confidence around the project, Mythri Movie Makers has decided to release the film on its own in the crucial Nizam territory. This move is often seen in the trade as a strong indicator of belief in the film’s box office potential, as producers usually retain distribution only when they are confident about returns.

The numbers involved further underline the scale of the film. The Nizam distribution rights are valued at around Rs.63 crore, which is a huge figure. To break even in this region alone, the film is expected to gross at least Rs.110 crore. While this may seem like a tough target, trade analysts believe it is achievable.

If the film receives positive reports, this figure may not be a tough ask, as there is already huge hype. But if the word of mouth is not strong, the hype alone may not translate into footfalls. In the absence of ticket price hikes, there could also be a 10 to 15% correction in expected returns.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film also carries additional appeal with music composed by AR Rahman and Janhvi Kapoor playing the female lead. With high expectations, strong pre-release business, and growing buzz, Peddi is shaping up to be one of the most important films in Ram Charan’s career.
