The title dispute surrounding Prabhas’ highly anticipated action-drama Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, is once again making headlines.
The makers of an upcoming independent Telugu film titled Spirit Is Not One have announced that they are preparing to take legal action against the team behind Spirit.
According to the producers, their film has already completed censor formalities, and they claim to hold the registered rights to the title. They allege that despite approaching Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s team multiple times, the issue was never resolved.
The producers further claim they were offered conditions they found unacceptable. According to them, they were allegedly asked to restrict their film’s release to Telugu theatres and refrain from using the word “Spirit” for its OTT or YouTube release.
Calling these terms unreasonable, the makers of Spirit Is Not One say they have now decided to pursue legal action.
They have reportedly submitted representations to the Film Chamber and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), requesting that no clearance be granted to any other film using the title Spirit until the dispute is resolved.
The producers also warned that if the Prabhas-starrer continues with the title, they are prepared to initiate legal proceedings over the alleged title infringement.
In a strongly worded statement, the team declared that they were no longer interested in negotiations and challenged the makers of Spirit to resolve the matter in court. They stated, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga, if you can, release the film with the Spirit title, or we will release our film. Whatever happens now, we will see in court.”
They also urged the makers of Spirit to stop using the title in promotional material until the dispute is settled.
So far, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, T-Series, and the producers of Spirit have not issued any public response to these allegations.
