Pradeep Ranganathan, who was once called the poor producer’s Dhanush, has become a youth sensation in the last few years. With youth-oriented stories, Pradeep has steadily gained popularity and is now considered one of Tamil cinema’s most promising young talents. Apart from acting, he has also proved his skills as a director with successful films like Love Today and Dragon.
Pradeep Ranganathan’s latest film Dude was directed by Keerthishwaran and also stars Mamitha Baiju, who shot to fame with Premalu. The film, produced by Mythri Movie Makers, hit theaters on October 17. The film received mixed reviews, but due to the festive season and Pradeep’s hype, it found some appreciation and crawled to Rs. 100 crores gross at the box office. The film is definitely a success, though not on the same level as Dragon.
It is being reported that Netflix bought the film’s OTT streaming rights for Rs. 25 crores, which is a remarkable deal for a mid-budget film. The movie will begin streaming on Netflix from November 14 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. This means Dude will be available on OTT less than a month after its theatrical release.
We have to see if Dude gets more love on OTT than in theaters, or if it will face backlash for some of the bold and controversial themes explored in the film.
Meanwhile, Pradeep is now working on Love Insurance Kompany, directed by Vignesh Shivan, with Krithi Shetty as the female lead.
