Most Evil Villains: Surprising New Trend Grips Tollywood

Kannada Villains Winning in Tollywood

Kannada actors have quietly become some of the most memorable villains in recent Telugu cinema.

One interesting trend over the past few years is how several Kannada actors have made a stronger impact as antagonists than many established Telugu or Bollywood names. Whether it is their screen presence, body language, or ability to project menace, they have consistently added weight to commercial entertainers.

Pramod Panju is the latest example. In Lenin, he delivers a powerful performance as the main antagonist. Inspired by the darker shades of Karna from the Mahabharata, his character represents ruthless, unapologetic evil, and Pramod brings the required intensity and conviction to the role.

Tarak Ponnappa also left a solid impression in Pushpa 2. While the writing didn’t give his character much depth, he made the most of his screen time with his commanding presence and convincing villainous attitude.

Then there is Daali Dhananjaya, who arguably delivered one of the most memorable Telugu villains in recent years. As Jolly Reddy in Pushpa, he brought raw brutality and unpredictability to the screen. Many viewers even felt he came across as more intimidating and memorable than Fahadh Faasil, despite the latter being positioned as Pushpa’s primary antagonist.

The trend isn’t limited to negative roles either. Kannada stars have generally been making a strong impact in Telugu cinema. Shiva Rajkumar, for instance, left a solid impression in Peddi despite having a character that many felt wasn’t written to its full potential.

What sets many Kannada actors apart is their rugged screen presence and natural intensity. Instead of merely looking menacing, they often make audiences genuinely dislike, fear, or remember their characters long after the film ends.

If this trend continues, Kannada actors may well become the first choice whenever Telugu filmmakers need a powerful, scene-stealing villain.
