A shocking video from PVR Galleria in Punjagutta, Hyderabad, has triggered widespread outrage. The incident involves a housekeeping supervisor, Satyanarayana, who reportedly collapsed on duty after being denied permission to leave despite severe chest pain.
According to journalist Revathi (X account: RevathiTweets), he reported for work on April 16 and later complained of intense chest pain. When he requested to leave, management allegedly refused. Soon after, he vomited and collapsed inside the theatre.
What followed has drawn sharp backlash. Instead of calling an ambulance or giving first aid, staff allegedly removed him from the premises and left him on the footpath outside.
A video shows his wife confronting a man believed to be a PVR manager, demanding to know why no ambulance was called, especially when NIMS Hospital is just minutes away. Her distress and anger have struck a chord online. A photo of Satyanarayana has also gone viral, making the incident more personal.
PVR Cinemas, one of India’s largest multiplex chains, which earns in crores, has not issued an official statement so far. People on social media are questioning whether the response was influenced by concerns over disruption, cost, or responsibility toward a contract worker.
The incident has also brought attention to a larger issue. Many companies rely on contract labor for roles like housekeeping and security, often distancing themselves from worker welfare. This system reduces costs for the company but leaves workers vulnerable.
The timing has added to the impact. The incident comes amid ongoing protests by contract workers in Noida demanding better wages and working conditions.
Denial of basic medical help raises serious concerns about workplace responsibility. The case has now sparked a larger debate on accountability and labor rights.
The question is whether this outrage will lead to action or fade away like many similar incidents.
