Rajamouli is one director who stands in a league of his own. He is currently the number one director in India, and there is hardly anyone even remotely close to his level. Yet, he remains the target of endless abuse and silly arguments from various star fandoms. Why? Because he works with top stars like Prabhas, NTR, Ram Charan and now Mahesh Babu.
As has happened before, Mahesh Babu’s fandom has now started pushing a narrative on social media that their hero is giving Rajamouli a far bigger break than he deserves at the international level. According to this narrative, Rajamouli couldn’t, and can’t take his films beyond India on his own now it’s Mahesh Babu who is supposedly helping him reach new heights.
As laughable as it sounds, this has turned into a serious argument online, with countless posts and debates clashing between different star fandoms. The result is a lot of silly noise on social media.
But if you look at the track record of Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli, the reality is clear. Mahesh Babu’s last three films Guntur Kaaram, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, and Sarileru Neekevvaru speak for themselves. No further discussion is needed; the titles alone hint at the type of films they are.
On the other hand, Rajamouli’s recent works Eega, Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali 2, and RRR are on a completely different scale. Again, the titles alone make it obvious what kind of cinematic feats these films represent.
So where does this narrative of “Mahesh Babu giving Rajamouli a break internationally” even come from? For one, Mahesh Babu has never crossed that boundary himself. Second, Rajamouli already earned the first-ever credit of having a Telugu or Indian film ‘RRR’ watched by international audiences on a massive scale.
Yet fans being fans ignore logic and reason. They push the narratives they want, no matter how silly it is. This is just one example of how even fan wars have lost quality these days.
