NBK vs Rajasekhar: Jagapathi Babu-Like Comeback Loading?

Balakrishna Rajasekhar Movie

A highly interesting update has emerged regarding the much-discussed collaboration between Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Koratala Siva. According to industry speculation, veteran actor Rajasekhar is being considered to play the main villain opposite Balakrishna.

Sources suggest that the villain’s role has been written with significant depth and power, making it much more than a routine villain character. Given the strong screen presence both actors possess, their confrontation face-off scenes on the big screen would be a treat to watch. The film is reportedly expected to go on floors in August.

Industry insiders also reveal that Balakrishna’s character will have a mafia backdrop, particularly in the flashback portions. Koratala Siva is said to be designing the role as a full-fledged mass character while simultaneously incorporating strong family emotions into the narrative.

Interestingly, reports have also suggested that Rajasekhar may have replaced Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist in Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming film Rowdy Janardhana.

According to industry talk, Vijay Sethupathi was initially approached for the role and was reportedly offered Rs. 20 crore as remuneration. However, the actor is said to have declined the project, prompting the makers to explore alternatives. Rajasekhar reportedly emerged as a strong option because the team believed he could bring the necessary intensity to the character, and that too at a much lower price.

Rajasekhar recently received appreciation for his performance in Sharwanand’s Biker, where many viewers felt he delivered a restrained and mature performance. The role helped generate considerable goodwill.

As a result, the current phase could be a potential comeback period for Rajasekhar, who was once titled Tollywood’s “Angry Young Man.” After years of inconsistent films and performances, he suddenly finds himself linked to multiple high-profile projects.

However, there is another side to the discussion. While villain roles offer exciting opportunities and can help veteran actors reinvent themselves, repeatedly playing similar characters in quick succession could lead to audience fatigue.

Even if he continues to portray villain roles in different films, the characters need to feel distinct from one another. The motivations, mannerisms, personality traits, and narrative importance of each role must differ enough to keep audiences engaged. Audiences appreciate variety.

If Rajasekhar manages to maintain that variety while selecting powerful characters, this phase could become one of the most rewarding chapters of his career, much like what happened with Jagapathi Babu after Legend.
