A Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth box-office clash is always a rare event. The two superstars have shared the screen in the past, but seeing their films compete on the same weekend is a completely different story. In 2023, when Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar clashed with Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Chiranjeevi had to face a brutal defeat.
Now, the industry could be heading towards another interesting Chiru-Rajini clash.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is officially locked for October 15. Director Nelson Dilipkumar is reportedly working to keep the film on schedule, with no plans for another postponement.
Interestingly, there is strong industry buzz that Chiranjeevi’s long-delayed Vishwambhara could arrive just a day later, on October 16. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but the date is reportedly almost locked. The makers could reveal the release plan on August 22, coinciding with Chiranjeevi’s birthday.
However, the current situation clearly favors Jailer 2. Vishwambhara is dealing with low buzz after multiple delays and backlash over its teaser, while Jailer 2 is generating strong excitement among trade circles and audiences. As things stand, Rajinikanth’s film has a clear upper hand.
But the bigger clash could come during Sankranti 2027.
After Jailer 2, Rajinikanth is expected to work on Dharman, with the film reportedly being planned for the 2027 Sankranti season. Rajinikanth has been away from the Pongal race for some time, and a festival release would be a major attraction for his fans.
At the same time, Bobby Kolli’s Mega 158, tentatively titled Kadiri Kakaji, starring Chiranjeevi, is also being planned for Sankranti 2027.
If both plans materialize, the two superstars could once again compete at the box office, this time during one of India’s biggest theatrical seasons.
Of course, Jailer 2 and Vishwambhara have already seen changes, and the Sankranti plans could also change before the films reach the finish line.
Still, the possibility is exciting.
Rajinikanth vs Chiranjeevi. Jailer 2 vs Vishwambhara first, and potentially Dharman vs Kadiri Kakaji later.
For fans, this is a dream clash. For exhibitors, it could be a headache. And for the box office, it could be absolute carnage.
