Ever since the first-look poster of Rajinikanth’s Dharman, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, was released, social media has been buzzing with reactions. While many fans appreciated the announcement, Trollers claimed that both the title and the first-look poster did not meet expectations.
Rajinikanth’s 173rd film was originally planned with director Sundar C, and the project was officially announced. However, Sundar C later exited the film. Cibi Chakaravarthi then came on board, but he also stepped away due to unforeseen reasons before Ashwath Marimuthu eventually took over the project.
At the grand launch event, Rajinikanth explained why the directorial changes happened. He revealed that Cibi Chakaravarthi had developed a script based on a nuclear weapon and a World War 3 backdrop. Since the project required a longer production schedule, Rajinikanth decided to postpone it and move ahead with Ashwath Marimuthu’s Dharman instead.
Following this revelation, some social media users criticised Rajinikanth’s decision. They argued that Cibi Chakaravarthi’s concept appeared fresher and more ambitious for the Kollywood industry. According to them, Dharman looks like a routine commercial entertainer compared to the earlier concept.
Some users even claimed that filmmakers with fresh ideas often miss opportunities, while conventional commercial projects receive preference. These opinions have triggered widespread discussions across social media platforms.
At the same time, many fans have defended Ashwath Marimuthu and supported Rajinikanth’s decision. They believe Ashwath Marimuthu is the stronger filmmaker and deserves the opportunity. Supporters also compared the directors’ previous films, stating that Dragon was more impressive than Cibi Chakaravarthi’s Don.
The debate has continued to gain momentum online, with both supporters and Trollers sharing their opinions. As discussions around Dharman grow, the film has already generated significant attention well before its release.
