Ram Charan and director Sukumar’s Rangasthalam was not just a blockbuster. It went on to become a cult film with strong repeat value and cultural impact. So when the duo confirmed another collaboration, expectations skyrocketed. Fans have been waiting for updates ever since the project was announced almost two years ago.
But progress has been far slower than expected. Sukumar was busy with Pushpa 2 till the end of 2024, and Ram Charan got busy with Game Changer and then Peddi. Ram Charan will only be free to begin Sukumar’s movie next summer in 2026, which gave the director ample time to come up with a strong script.
Naturally, fans assumed that the script would be locked by now. There were even rumors that the film would be shot on an international scale, partly in English and mostly abroad. These reports spread widely and created the impression that the shoot is ready to begin soon in the next few months.
However, inside reports paint a different picture. Sukumar is still in the writing phase and has not finalized even the basic story. For months now, he has been discussing ideas with his writing team and is reportedly torn between two subjects.
One is a stylish, modern, emotional drama with strong artistic depth. Sukumar likes the idea but fears it may lean too much toward niche and class audiences. The second concept is a raw, mass driven rural entertainer. But choosing that direction risks comparisons with Rangasthalam and Pushpa, something Sukumar wants to avoid.
This dilemma has slowed progress. Even after he finalizes the concept, converting it into a detailed screenplay will take time, especially considering Sukumar’s meticulous writing style. This raises the possibility that the script may not be fully ready when Ram Charan becomes available by the end of March.
People close to the project say this is not unusual for Sukumar. His scripts evolve slowly, but when they are finally locked, they tend to be layered, impactful, and worth the wait.
For now, the only certainty is uncertainty. Fans will have to remain patient until Sukumar publicly confirms the story direction and schedule. We will have to see if Ram Charan surprises and chooses to do a quickie in between by the time Sukumar locks his script.
