There was this feeling when the cast and crew of Saaho were getting announced initially, that if the makers are going opposite of Baahubali with their choices for the next big Rebel Star Prabhas movie. Well, those feelings and doubts are confirmed now.
What we are talking here is about the ‘feel’ of watching a Telugu movie. Baahubali was a Telugu film that found appreciation in entire India. Its primary base was the Telugu film industry and its audience. With Saaho that Telugu movie feel is getting diluted.
Right from the artist’s selected to the latest music, Saaho looks like a Hindi movie dubbed into the Telugu language. The ‘Psycho Saiyaan’ single doesn’t ring like a Telugu song and is, therefore, getting a weak response from the core audience.
In the past, the makers of Ram Charan starrer Zanjeer (Thoofan in Telugu) made a similar mistake. In Saaho’s case, it is good that at the least production is in charge of Telugu people who have strong business acumen and a local director is at the helm.
Prabhas definitely has a pan-India recognition post Baahubali movies. It makes sense that makers make use of that. But, it still has to be done by creating a Telugu product as the core audience has to be always intact. People will show up for Saaho, no doubt, but they would be disappointed if they get the feeling of a dubbed affair. Let’s hope that is not the case here.
