Writer Explodes on Makers: ‘They Abused My Story’

Sai Madhav Burra Saraswathi story controversy

A controversy has surfaced around the film Saraswathi, which marks the directorial debut of actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. The film is now facing the heat from noted writer Sai Madhav Burra.

Sai Madhav Burra expressed his frustration through a social media post. Without directly naming the film, he wrote that the project begins with his story but ends with a completely different one. According to him, the makers changed the script significantly without informing him. He claimed that the original concept carried a different emotional core, but the final version reportedly turned into something else.

Sai Madhav Burra even accused the team of “abusing” his storyline and altering it according to their own preferences. He also clarified that the story he wrote was never meant to be a revenge drama and that the soul of the original narrative had been lost.

Although Burra did not mention the film by name, many in industry circles believe his comments were aimed at Saraswathi. The issue has sparked discussion about how filmmakers sometimes reshape an idea extensively during production, often leaving the original writer unhappy with the final outcome.

Sai Madhav Burra had written it with plans to direct the film himself. However, for reasons unknown, the project eventually moved into Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s hands. He pointed out that Varalaxmi has spoken about the story in several interviews and promotional events but never referred to him as the writer.

The controversy has now become a talking point within the industry. With the film expected to hold a press meet soon, many are waiting to see whether Varalaxmi Sarathkumar or the production team will respond to these allegations and present their side of the story.
