Salaar: Neel’s Biggest Strength Is Missing

Salaar

Salaar is releasing in less than just 9 days from now. The scale and canvas of the product are expectedly large but the promotional material is awry to say the least.

The makers dropped a new song today and it is not what one would expect from a mass potboiler like Salaar. The song has a pathos vibe and it has no hook-point whatsoever.

In the case of KGF 1 and 2, the hook music was a rage. It instantly gave a high while listening. Songs like Dheera Dheera, Evadiki Evadu Banisa, Sulthaan, and others ruled the mass playlists then. Goosebump-inducing songs and hook BGM is what KGF duology boasted in abundance.

But as for Salaar’s song, one might confuse for an art film song. The mellowed sounding and instrumentation might work in the narrative of the full film but releasing it before the theatrical debut has further dampened the already dull vibe surrounding the film.

If needed, Prashanth Neel could’ve commissioned a theme song like the ‘Monster’ from KGF 2 just for the promotional content and mentioned this wouldn’t be in the film and this is just a theme song. It could’ve added some impetus of sorts rather than this dull song.

Salaar is expected to have a loud and larger-than-life sounding but both these aspects were seriously lacking in the trailer and this new song.

Downplaying the buzz is one thing. But not taking proper care of whatever promotional content that is coming out is not what Prabhas’s fans expected from Neel. The only hope now is Neel and Prabhas giving that decisively important ‘high’ in the theatrical print. Enough of this dull vibe.
