Sita Controversy: Nayanthara Praised, Sai Pallavi Slammed

Saluri Vasu Rao questions Sai Pallavi Sita role in Ramayana

Old-generation music director Saluri Vasu Rao has slammed Sai Pallavi’s casting as Sita in Ramayana, questioning whether an actress who allegedly expressed limited faith in God should portray a divine character.

Speaking about the portrayal of Hindu deities in cinema and media, Vasu Rao questioned why Sai Pallavi would accept the role if she doesn’t blindly believe in faith.

While discussing earlier mythological films, Vasu Rao praised Nayanthara for her dedication to playing Sita Devi in Sri Rama Rajyam. He highlighted her disciplined approach during the shoot, stating that she maintained a strict vegetarian diet and stayed connected to the character through prayer.

Her commitment reportedly earned her respect from industry veterans, including legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam. Vasu Rao brought up this example while reflecting on the discipline and dedication he believes actors should show when portraying revered mythological figures.

He also brought up Sai Pallavi’s earlier remarks about the Kargil War, describing them as inappropriate.

Vasu Rao also expressed concern over modern, AI-generated images of Hindu deities, arguing that such representations move away from traditional depictions. He said younger generations should not be encouraged to accept unconventional portrayals without question.

The music director also slammed certain YouTube channels for using misleading headlines and making disrespectful comments about public figures. He said journalists should ask relevant questions and act responsibly when interviewing experienced industry veterans instead of chasing sensational content.

Vasu Rao’s remarks add to the debate over casting choices, religious beliefs, and the responsibility involved in bringing revered figures to the screen. However, his complaints come across as outdated, like those of a WhatsApp boomer uncle, and his allegations about Sai Pallavi should not be treated as established facts, as there is no evidence that Sai Pallavi has ever said she doesn’t believe in God.
