Satellite Business Heads Upset with With OTT

Satellite Business Heads Upset with With OTTThe OTT boom has affected the theatrical business of movies tremendously. Especially small and medium-budget movies have completely lost their sheen as far as theatrical revenue is concerned.

Now it seems the satellite business is also getting affected because of OTT platforms. Recently Kamal Haasan’s blockbuster movie Vikram had its satellite premiere and the TRPs have come out shockingly low. Vikram’s TRP has been recorded as 4.42 which is less than Sivakarthikeyan’s Doctor’s TRP.

The main reason for these low numbers is attributed to the fact that Vikram has been streaming on many OTT platforms for many days and people have watched it multiple times in various languages on those platforms. So there was not much audience left to watch the film on television.

Tv channels pay exorbitant prices to the makers to acquire satellite rights for films just like OTT platforms pay for digital rights. But if a film performs like Vikram on TV, then it turns out to be a huge loss venture and disappointment for the satellite rights owners.

It’s time to retrospect and re-evaluate the satellite business because things aren’t the same as before after OTT platforms have unleashed their wrath.
