Comedian-turned-actor Satya is stepping into a full-fledged lead role with Jetlee, reuniting with director Ritesh Rana for a film that promises an unusual mix of action, humor, and suspense. Backed by Clap Entertainment and presented by Mythri Movie Makers, the movie is all set to hit screens on May 1st.

The idea for Jetlee dates back to the 2020 lockdown, when Ritesh and his writer Jayendra first cracked the concept. What began as a different project with another hero eventually transformed when Ritesh reimagined the story with Satya in mind. Interestingly, Satya was originally written as a flight attendant, and even he was unsure when he was told he would play the lead in the film.

Speaking about his rapport with Satya, the director says, “We actually have a non-sync, and that non-sync creates a great sync. We are very different, and that’s what works.”

Set almost entirely inside an aircraft, the film stands out for its ambitious design. “We constructed a flight set with economy, business class, cargo, and cockpit—five sets on a single floor. This has easily been one of the most challenging projects I’ve taken on.” Set against the backdrop of a journey from Dubai to Kochi, the film weaves together high-energy action, gripping suspense, and lighthearted moments to deliver an all-round engaging experience.

Jetlee has pushed boundaries for the director, with certain sequences requiring months of CGI work to achieve a slick, stylish finish. With its experimental setting and genre-blending approach, the film is shaping up to be a distinctive theatrical experience. Ritesh has also hinted that a sequel could be on the cards if the film connects with audiences.
