Why Shah Rukh Khan Quietly Avoided Prabhas-Vanga Clash?

Spirit release impacts Bollywood calendar

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has firmly established himself as a powerful pan India brand. With Animal, he did not just deliver a blockbuster, he shook Bollywood and proved that his raw, unapologetic filmmaking style connects strongly with today’s audiences. Riding on that momentum, he is now teaming up with Prabhas for Spirit.

From the moment the first look poster of Spirit was released, the buzz has been massive. Social media exploded, and every small update since then has kept fans hooked. The makers have officially locked March 5, 2027, coinciding with the Eid weekend, as the release date.

This announcement appears to have had a ripple effect in Bollywood, especially around Shah Rukh Khan’s next big film, King. For a long time, it was widely expected that King would arrive during the Eid 2027 window, which is traditionally one of the strongest release periods for Hindi cinema. Soon after Spirit officially locked the March 5 date, the makers of King quietly shifted gears.

Instead of Eid, King is now scheduled for a December 24, 2026 release. That date comes with its own risks. The film will open just a week after major Hollywood tentpoles like Avengers Doomsday and Dune 3. This could eat into screen space not only overseas but also across Indian multiplexes during the Christmas season.

This sudden change has triggered an obvious question in trade circles and among fans. Is Shah Rukh Khan avoiding a direct clash with Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga?

Many believe this is a case of caution over confrontation. The memory of the Dunki versus Salaar clash is still fresh. When Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki clashed with Prabhas’s Salaar, both films suffered in the Hindi market and reportedly lost significant potential business. Trade estimates suggest losses of around Rs.50 to Rs.75 crores each in Hindi alone.

From that perspective, choosing to face Hollywood competition rather than a Prabhas Vanga film may seem like a calculated gamble. Whether this December strategy works in Shah Rukh Khan’s favor, or whether Avengers will prove to be a bigger threat than Prabhas and Sandeep Vanga, will only be clear with time. For now, one thing is certain. Spirit has already started influencing the release calendar well ahead of its arrival.
