It was a barbaric punishment meted out to the alleged rapist who raped a Nagaland girl student last month. A visibly angry mob, kidnapped the alleged rapist from Dimapur Jail, dragged him on roads for several miles, beating and pelting with stones leading to his death. The security of the jail were unable to control the mob and the furious mob pronounced an uncivilised verdict.
This incident happened on 5th March and the person who was lynched, Syed Khan is said to be an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant. But all that is proved false by the latest medical reports and by virtue of the Assam government’s claim that the person who was lynched by mob was from Assam, Badarpur Village of Karimganj district.
Moreover, the medical reports of the Nagaland girl suggests that actually no rape happened on her. This led to a tense situation between two different groups from Assam and Nagaland. Assam Chief Minister expressed concern on security of the Assamese in Nagaland.
Jamaluddin Khan, brother of Syed Khan says that it was the cousin of Syed’s wife who reported wrong rape case on dead Khan. While his family members have served in army as trustworthy citizens fighting even in the Kargil war, wrong reports that they are Bangla immigrants are used only to make his brother a scape goat.
The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendant of Police were suspended by the Nagaland government for the lapse in their duties. The Chief Minister of Nagaland promised to obey whatever the deceased family wishes for. Can they undo what had happened?
