Music director Thaman has received extremely mixed feedback for his latest work in Akhanda 2. Expectations were high after Akhanda 1 because the first part created a powerful musical impact. After the film’s release, it can be safely said that Thaman failed to meet expectations.
Not just the songs, even the background score of Akhanda 2 triggered divided opinions. A section of the audience complained about excessive loudness and improper sound mixing. Thaman’s work in recent times has been largely underwhelming. His first single from Prabhas’ Raja Saab also couldn’t create any impact. It was slammed even by hardcore Prabhas fans for being unimaginative.
At the same time, Devi Sri Prasad released the first single Dekhlenge Saala from Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh yesterday. The song does not offer anything radically new. Still, it immediately connected with fans because of its catchy tune, vibrant beats, and overall energy.
Many listeners felt that DSP once again proved why he is the safest and strongest choice for pure commercial entertainers. Fans believe that DSP understands the mass pulse instinctively. They feel he delivers instant impact songs that help in boosting a film’s buzz.
Following this, some Prabhas fans began tagging Thaman on social media and comparing the Raja Saab song with Dekhlenge Saala. They pointed out that this is how a first single should create buzz and connect with the audience.
The Raja Saab marks Prabhas’ first horror comedy film, and the makers have invested a massive budget in it. Fans were hugely disappointed by the title song. However, they are hopeful that the second song, which releases soon, will turn out to be decent at least.
Fans are also especially concerned about the background score. Going by his recent form, they are not very optimistic. Industry insiders say that the final cut of Raja Saab will be ready soon and Thaman will begin re-recording work soon.
Since Thaman is working with Prabhas after a long gap, fans believe this is his moment to deliver his best. Competition is intense, with chartbuster songs already released from other Sankranti films. It remains to be seen whether Thaman can make a comeback from the Akhanda 2 fiasco.
