No Telugu, Poor Tamil: Sreeleela’s Dream Shattered?

Sreeleela Kollywood debut Parasakthi

Due to censor related issues and a shortage of theatres, the Tamil film Parasakthi did not release in Telugu states. After poor response in Tamil itself, it looks unlikely that its Telugu dubbed version will release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

This is particularly disappointing for Sivakarthikeyan, who had recently gained some market in Telugu with Amaran. However, his next film Madarasi turned out to be a disaster in Telugu. Because of this, Sivakarthikeyan had placed high hopes on Parasakthi to strengthen his Telugu market.

In fact, the film is even more crucial for Sreeleela. This movie marks her Kollywood debut. Adding to the expectations was the fact that the film was directed by Sudha Kongara, who is widely respected as a strong content driven filmmaker. Naturally, many believed this combination would give Sreeleela a solid launch in Tamil cinema.

However, the public talk and reviews are not encouraging. While the film has honesty in its idea, Sudha Kongara struggled in the execution. The intent is visible, but the storytelling appears uneven. Regarding Sreeleela’s performance, her role is just average. Her character does not offer much scope, and she often feels like a filler rather than an integral part of the drama. This reflects weak character writing and prevents her from making any meaningful impact on the audience.

Sreeleela failed to get the breakthrough she hoped for in Tamil. Unfortunately, after back-to-back flops in Telugu, her Tamil debut has also started on a weak note. In Kollywood, a poor debut can completely halt a heroine’s career. As of now, Bollywood appears to be her remaining hope, where she is set to make her debut this year in a much-hyped romantic film starring Kartik Aaryan. How that turns out may play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of her career.
