Since its release on December 20, 2024, Mufasa: The Lion King has emerged as a box-office coup in India. However, according to trade pundits, initially the film could only manage a slight ₹7 crore net on its opening day.

Although, its popularity soon rose up, collecting steadily, with the total gross touching ₹98.25 crore by New Year’s Eve, thanks to a decent minting of ₹5.5 crore on that day itself.

The stardom of Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu, who lent their voices to the iconic character in the Hindi and Telugu versions, respectively, helped tremendously.

Trade analysts also suggest that if Baby John hadn’t released on Christmas, Mufasa would have performed even better with more screens and shows.

Baby John took away many prime screens and shows from Mufasa. While Baby John itself was a huge disaster, it still had a negative impact on Mufasa. Baby John didn’t benefit from the release, but it hurt Mufasa’s potential.

As the New Year week begins, Mufasa is very close to becoming a film that crosses the ₹100 crore mark; estimates indicate approximately a ₹125 crore earning as a holiday effect.
