Rajamouli is Aware, But Caution Needed!

SS Rajamouli global cinema icon

As of today, there is no Indian director with a bigger legacy than SS Rajamouli. This becomes evident from the way James Cameron spoke about him during promotions for Avatar 3.

During the interaction, James Cameron expressed his admiration for Rajamouli’s work. He even said he would be ready to shoot a few scenes for Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi.

“I’d like to operate the camera and work around this set,” Cameron said. Rajamouli responded positively and stated that he would be happy to have Cameron on the set.

This recognition is a result of the global impact created by RRR. The film impressed audiences worldwide and caught the attention of filmmakers like James Cameron.

The fact that Cameron wants to be part of Rajamouli’s film highlights how far his cinema has reached. It reflects the respect Rajamouli commands at a global level today.

However, the core strength behind Rajamouli’s success lies in his rooted commercial storytelling. His elevation blocks and strong characterisation are what define his filmmaking style.

Being a global phenomenon does not mean Rajamouli should move away from this approach. Chasing wider audiences should not come at the cost of losing his original commercial touch.

There is little doubt that Rajamouli is fully aware of this balance. He is a master of the craft and the architect of this style himself.

As long as Rajamouli applies the same conviction and clarity, the rest will naturally fall into place. His understanding of cinema remains his biggest strength.
