Superstar Krishna statue controversy Bhimavaram

A controversy has emerged in Bhimavaram over the statue of legendary Telugu actor Krishna, fondly known as Superstar Krishna. The statue, located at Edward Tank Park, has become the center of a dispute between the municipal authorities and Krishna’s fan associations.

The Bhimavaram Municipal Corporation issued a notice directing the removal of the statue, citing administrative procedures and orders from the municipal commissioner. Fans strongly opposed the move, asserting that the statue was installed after obtaining all necessary permissions and does not violate any rules.

The statue was unveiled in March 2024, with Krishna’s brother G. Adi Seshagiri Rao and filmmaker Thammareddy Bharadwaj attending the ceremony. For admirers, it symbolizes Krishna’s immense contribution to Telugu cinema and his enduring legacy.

Following the notice, fan association leader Rayaprolu Srinivasamurthy approached the High Court and secured a stay on the removal, temporarily halting any action by the authorities.

Fan groups have since warned that any attempt to forcibly remove the statue would trigger protests, stating that Superstar Krishna holds a deep emotional place among Telugu audiences and that removing the statue would hurt public sentiment.
