2023 has turned out to be a great year for mystery thrillers in Tollywood. These days the Telugu audience is fascinated by stories that venture into the dark territories of spirits, exorcism, and horror.
The shining examples are Sai Dharam Tej’s Virupaksha and the recently released Maa Oori Polimera 2. In both films, the twists and turns worked out along with the horror elements making them an engaging watch for the entertainment craving Telugu audience. Both films turned out to be big blockbusters.
Next in the line are Ajay Bhupathi’s Mangalavaram and Sundeep Kishan’s Ooru Peru Bhairavakona.
Mangalavaram has been making some noise among the audience as the trailer was impressive. The film promises to be a terrifying and gruesome tale with a lot of suspense and mystery. The film is all set to hit the screens on November 17.
Ooru Peru Bhairavakona starring Sundeep Kishan and Varsha Bollamma is another intriguing rural mystery thriller directed by VI Anand. The story seems to have borrowed fantasy elements from the epic book Garuda Puranam and is said to be high on visual effects.
The success of this film is very crucial for Sundeep and director Anand who have been going through a rough patch for a long time. The film’s release date is to be announced soon.
Well-made thrillers with good technical values are being appreciated by the Telugu audience and we have to see for how long this trend continues.
