Federation Trying To Blackmail Vishwa Prasad

TG Vishwa Prasad Blackmail

The standoff between film workers and producers has intensified in the Telugu film industry, with the Federation demanding a 30% hike and producers opposing what they call a unilateral decision to strike.

Producers see this as an opportunity to address long-standing issues with the Federation and unions, even though they are already facing severe challenges. While willing to endure the financial hit from a strike, they are refusing to give in to what they consider blackmail tactics.

Discussions between both sides are still underway, and producers are handling the matter cautiously in front of the media. M9 News journalist Nishant spoke to producers Naveen Yerneni and Bunny Vas, both of whom avoided making strong statements to prevent offending the workers. Even major stars like Chiranjeevi have remained silent on the matter for the same reason.

However, one producer has openly taken a stand against the Federation. TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory has long been working to streamline processes and reduce unnecessary union expenses.

When the strike was announced, he addressed the press directly, criticising what he referred to as the “unions mafia.” He also sent a legal notice to the Federation and initiated legal action against attempts to stall the industry.

The Federation responded by questioning why Vishwa Prasad sent the notice and declared they would not work on his film shoots until the court gives its verdict. This has clearly drawn battle lines, with Federation leaders appearing unable to tolerate his criticism. Yet, Vishwa Prasad has shown no signs of backing down from what he views as blackmail.

The case could have wider implications, as a 2017 Competition Commission of India verdict states that cine unions cannot prevent the hiring of non-members. If Vishwa Prasad’s legal fight enforces this ruling strictly, it could deliver a serious blow to the unions. The outcome of this confrontation may well reshape the industry.
