bad-boy-karthik-movie-reviewWhat Is the Film About?

How Naga Shourya, who is deeply emotionally connected to his sister Sridevi, gets into trouble and how it ties to their personal loss forms the core story of Bad Boy Karthik at a high level.

Performances

Naga Shourya is coming back to the big screen after a gap of a few years. He looks lean and fit in this film, but performance-wise, there is nothing worth mentioning, and he only reminds us how he has lost track with both time and films.

There is nothing worth mentioning about Vidhi Yadav either. Her character is as silly as it gets.

Analysis

Bad Boy Karthik opens with a routine, overused hero introduction that feels completely outdated. It is followed by a song, and then another love song that tries to hint at what is coming next.

The film shifts into a style that feels like it belongs to two decades ago, making it hard to stay engaged. Songs and love track inserted at random, breaking whatever little flow the film has.

The story itself is very basic. Two villains try to outplay each other, while the hero falls in love with a police officer’s daughter. This love track feels out of place for today’s audience and current movie trends.

Even if you ignore logic, the entire first half comes across as utterly outdated. Calling it “outdated” is actually being polite. The only part that works a bit is the interval fight.

The second half begins with melodramatic brother and sister sentiment scenes, followed by an emotional song which feels forced. After sitting through the first half, you wouldn’t expect the film to turn things around, and it doesn’t. Instead, it adds more pain and boredom with an utterly silly and meaningless track of Vennela Kishore, which only tests the patience further and makes it even harder to sit through.

The film stretches endlessly towards the climax, with scenes involving Vennela Kishore, the hero, and the villains making you wish it would end sooner. While the second half does reveal the core motive behind how Naga Shourya and his sister’s lives are affected by the villains, that remains the only somewhat relevant part. The rest of the film feels like a test of patience, mainly due to its extremely outdated writing and presentation.

Overall, Bad Boy Karthik is not made for today’s audience. It ends up feeling like a complete waste of time, money, and effort for those who watch it.

Performances by Others Actors

Bad Boy Karthik has several well-known actors like Samuthirakani, Naresh, Saikumar, Vennela Kishore, and Sridevi Vijaykumar, but what can they do when the script, writing, and presentation feel like a time travel back twenty years.

Music-Director-Harris-JayarajMusic and Other Departments?

Music by Harris Jayaraj is outright forgettable, and so is his background score.

Rasool Ellore is the DOP, but the film looks visually dated, and the editing is not sharp. Vennela Kishore’s track is a clear example of choppy editing.

Production values by Sri Vaishnavi Films aren’t exactly what current day audiences expect.
