This Valentine’s Day is turning busy for the Telugu box office. Two notable releases, Funky and Couple Friendly, have arrived in theatres. Both films are attracting attention for different reasons.
The biggest positive is genre diversity. Funky is promoted as a comedy entertainer. Couple Friendly is positioned as a slow cooked romantic drama.
Expectations were decent for both films. Funky was expected to deliver solid comical relief. Couple Friendly aimed to offer a warm and emotional love story.
However, the Vishwak Sen starrer Funky has not fully met expectations. The comedy feels undercooked in parts. While a few slapstick moments may appeal to some viewers, the overall response appears mixed.
On the other hand, Couple Friendly is performing slightly better in terms of reception. The live in relationship concept connects with contemporary audiences. Yet, many feel the story had more potential to explore.
Despite the shortcomings, Telugu audiences now have two different options this weekend. One offers light hearted comedy. The other attempts emotional romance.
Neither film may completely define its genre or achieve cinematic brilliance. Still, both provide something to watch during the Valentine’s weekend. For the Tollywood box office, that diversity itself is a positive sign.
