The Pandemic has accelerated the growth of the OTT platforms in cinema. With theaters opening and there are doubts about how OTT and the theatrical business are going to co-exist in near future. At this juncture, the industry may be working on a model to streamlining the business.
Senior Producer Suresh Babu feels that even after the normalcy is restored, there will be films that will release on OTT. In an interview, he also hinted about working on a platform that will change the face of theatrical business in the coming days.
“We’re trying to build an e-platform where producers, distributors, and exhibitors will be brought under a single umbrella. Box office collections will be updated and producers can bid with the distributors, irrespective of the geographical location,” he said.
The current box office reporting in India has no transparency. There are inflated numbers everywhere in the name of film promotion. The system will have its pros and cons for the industry which may even lead to a huge correction. Will the industry open up to such an accountable and transparent system?
