Yash’s upcoming film Toxic continues to generate curiosity despite multiple release postponements. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the high-intensity action drama has remained one of the most talked-about pan-India projects ever since its announcement.
According to the latest industry buzz, the makers are now considering a Sankranti 2027 release, which has historically been a lucrative release period for Telugu films.
If Toxic eventually locks the slot, the Sankranti 2027 race could become significantly more crowded. Several Telugu biggies are already eyeing the festival season, and Yash’s entry would instantly intensify the battle for theatres, screens, and audience attention.
The film’s release journey has itself become a topic of discussion. Industry reports suggest that one of the key reasons for the multiple postponements could be the unresolved OTT deal. According to trade buzz, the makers are expecting nearly Rs. 200 crores for the digital rights, while streaming platforms are reportedly valuing the film in the Rs. 100-120 crores range.
For a project said to be mounted on a budget of around Rs. 600 crores, that difference is massive.
At the same time, Toxic has attracted its share of controversy. Almost every promotional asset released so far has triggered debates online. Director Geetu Mohandas has faced trolling from some sections over the film’s violent imagery and bold content. Yet, paradoxically, the backlash may have worked in the film’s favor by keeping it constantly in public discussion.
What makes Toxic particularly interesting is that audiences still know very little about the actual story. The makers have revealed the visual style, atmosphere, and tone of the film, but Toxic has carefully protected its biggest selling point: mystery.
That curiosity is perhaps the biggest reason the repeated delays have not damaged audience interest.
As long as that curiosity remains intact, Toxic is likely to command a massive opening whenever it finally releases. What happens after that, however, will depend entirely on the content.
For now, Sankranti 2027 remains an industry rumor rather than an official announcement. But if Yash eventually enters the festive race, it could create one of the most competitive box office battles in recent years and force several other films to rethink their release plans.
