This Independence day weekend, Bollywood will see one of the biggest clashes in recent times. Aamir Khan’s much-awaited Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Rakshabandhan are releasing on August 11th. But there has been a boycott trend against both films.
Aamir Khan’s controversial statements about the country’s intolerance in 2015, his anti-Modi statements in 2006, and his recent visit to Turkey has created a negative wave against Laal Singh Chaddha, and the pro-Hindutva organizations have called for a boycott of the film.
Rakshabandhan is also getting targeted by these agenda-driven groups as the writer of the film, Kanika Dhillon, had made some controversial tweets against Hindu beliefs in the past. The screenshots of those tweets are being made viral.
Akshay Kumar also made some remarks in 2012 where he asked people not to waste money on milk and oil in temples and instead feed the poor. These things have not gone well with some people, and hence the boycott trends are running on social media against the film.
Karthikeya 2 is getting an unexpected boost in the Hindi belt because of these boycott trends. The Hindi version of the film is being promoted by pro-Hindu people in the northern belt. They are saying that Karthikeya 2 promotes Hinduism and shows the greatness of Lord Krishna.
Many are promoting the film through various channels on social media, saying that instead of watching Laal Singh Chaddha and Rakshabandhan, it is better to watch Karthikeya 2, which is soaked in our Sanatani roots.
Karthikeya 2’s producer Abhishek Agrawal’s last film, The Kashmir Files, created a sensation in Bollywood by becoming the highest-grossing film of 2022. So Bollywood trade is expecting Karthikeya 2 will also make an impact because it caters to the ongoing Hindutva wave in the country.
It will be interesting to witness the effect of medium-budgeted Karthikeya 2 on Bollywood’s big releases, Laal Singh Chaddha and Rakshabandhan.
