Nandi Awards: Producer Says Sorry After Heavy Backlash

Vamsi Nandipati apology event

Small films Producer Vamsi Nandipati recently found himself in controversy after making an unnecessary and inappropriate comment at the release date announcement event of Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani. While praising actress Laya and speaking about her Nandi Awards, Vamsi made an awkward and offensive remark. He said the Nandi Awards are lying in her house like pigs, using the word pandulu in Telugu.

The statement shocked those present. Even the anchor on stage did not immediately grasp what he meant and asked him to repeat it. Instead of correcting himself, Vamsi repeated the same line and finished his speech. Social media reacted very strongly, and he faced heavy trolling and backlash.

Many felt that, as a producer, he should have been more careful, especially when speaking about awards that carry cultural and emotional value in Telugu cinema.

After the backlash, Vamsi addressed the issue at the success meet of Hey Balwanth on Thursday. He publicly apologized and said he had misspoken. He insisted that it was a slip of the tongue and that his remark did not reflect his personal opinion. He claimed he was only repeating something he had heard 12 years ago from someone else, which people misunderstood.

He added that he deeply respects both God and awards. He said he grew up dreaming of winning a Nandi Award and entered the film industry with that goal. He stated clearly that he would never intentionally insult such an honor and expressed regret if his words had hurt anyone.
