After the massive global success of RRR, expectations for director SS Rajamouli’s next film are at an extraordinary level. Telugu cinema lovers strongly believe that Rajamouli is preparing something completely new and never seen before. This time, he is presenting superstar Mahesh Babu in a range and scale that no filmmaker has attempted earlier.
Varanasi is expected to become the fastest film in Rajamouli’s career. The team plans to finish the entire talkie portion by October this year. Mahesh Babu’s shooting is likely to wrap up by September. The team is also completing VFX work simultaneously. If everything goes according to plan, the makers intend to release the film on April 7, 2027. Sources say this date has already been locked.
Interestingly, Rajamouli revealed the release date in a very unique way without any publicity. He placed two banners in the city of Varanasi, one reading “In Theatres” and the other displaying “7 April 2027.” Social media users praised this smart and subtle promotion, saying no other filmmaker in the world would think like Rajamouli.
However, Spirit, starring Prabhas, is scheduled to release on March 5. That film also carries massive hype. If it receives strong talk, it could dominate collections for nearly a month. This creates curiosity about whether audiences will show the same level of enthusiasm for Varanasi just one month later. But many forget that it is Rajamouli, India’s biggest brand, and that too with Mahesh Babu. If things fall in place, the film will see never before openings in the history of Indian cinema.
The film will release on a Wednesday, coinciding with Ugadi and Gudi Padwa. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh has confirmed the release date on social media.
