Vijay Deverakonda has taken the growing misuse of his identity online to court. The actor approached Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights against unauthorised content and commercial exploitation of his name, image and personal.
The court has now issued notice to social media platforms and other defendants in the case. Vijay’s plea reportedly flags several forms of misuse, including obscene AI-generated content, impersonation, fake endorsements and misleading websites that could make people believe he is associated with products or services.
The actor has also raised concerns over mobile applications on Google Play and merchandise such as T-shirts and mugs allegedly using his identity without permission. His plea seeks to prevent such unauthorised commercial use of his personality attributes.
Interestingly, some allegedly offending URLs were already taken down after the case was filed and served on the concerned parties. However, Vijay is seeking broader protection against similar misuse in the future.
The court is yet to pass an order on his request for interim relief, making the next development in the case significant.
