The Hrithik Roshan and NTR starrer War 2 has opened below expectations in the Hindi market. The film’s first-day collections have come out in the range of Rs. 28 to 29 crore range, according to box office analysts. This is way short of projections. The hope now rests on the extended three-day holiday window to lift collections and help secure a respectable extended weekend total.
Industry expectations had been that the Hindi version alone would cross Rs. 50 crores on day one. However, the ugly reality is that the total net collections across India, including Hindi and Telugu versions, have just pass that mark.
War 2 is now the weakest and lowest opener in YRF’s Spy Universe, with a Hindi net for day one lower than even Ek Tha Tiger (2012). The Telugu market was also underwhelming, with Jr. NTR unable to deliver the expected numbers in the South. Even in the mass belts, collections were disappointing.
With early audience feedback leaning negative, trade analysts expect a sharp drop from Saturday itself. The film could finish worldwide below Rs. 300 crore gross. Trade experts point to dull marketing, including poor teaser, trailer, and music, as key reasons for the weak start. None of these promotional assets connected strongly with audiences.
Independence Day could still offer a temporary boost. However, the bigger question is whether the film can sustain momentum in the coming days. The long-term outlook appears quite shaky unless War 2 manages a strong turnaround in the next few days.
