The success of films such as Chennai Express, Ek Tha Tiger and Rowdy Rathore are questioning the ability of Telugu cinema, especially at the box-office. Telugu is the second largest spoken language in India after Hindi, and yet we don’t see our films touching the magic number of 100.
Many say Bollywood makes better films, but i beg to disagree because films such as Wanted, Rowdy Rathore and even Singham were remake of south Indian films, and therefore, we can’t say we don’t make better films. Then what is the reason behind this question.
One of the major reasons is that Bollywood aggressively markets its films and releases in as many theatres as possible but Telugu industry hardly gets good share of cinemas because the industry is monopolized by few. This doesn’t allow free run of films in the cinema halls.
