Can Kantara 2 Repeat KGF 2 Magic with Less Hype?

Kantara Chapter One vs KGF 2

Kantara Chapter One is one of the most awaited films in the upcoming lineup. Trade experts are already comparing it with the phenomenal run of KGF Chapter 2, which set new records at the box office.

The prequel, backed by the goodwill of Kantara (2022), has registered massive business even before its release. In the Telugu states, it was sold for nearly Rs 100 crore on ratio terms despite clashing with Pawan Kalyan’s OG. In Tamil Nadu, the business touched Rs 32 crore, which is higher than many big-star releases of the same season.

This strong support from distributors has led to predictions that Kantara Chapter One might achieve the same kind of success as KGF 2, which collected around Rs 1,200 crore worldwide. However, there is also an important difference that cannot be ignored.

KGF had the strong advantage of Rocky Bhai’s cult following built after the first film. Its dialogues, mass appeal, and stylish action turned it into a cultural phenomenon. By the time Chapter 2 arrived, this craze guaranteed extraordinary openings, including Rs 50 crore net in Hindi alone.

Kantara, on the other hand, was a massive blockbuster made on a modest Rs 15 crore budget and grossed more than Rs 400 crore globally. It earned Rs 100 crore net in the Hindi market and was widely appreciated, but it did not achieve the same cult status as KGF.

The big question now is whether Kantara Chapter One can convert its strong pre-release buzz into a KGF-level box-office history or remain a rooted blockbuster with a limited pan-India reach.
