Yash has found himself at the center of a fresh pan-India controversy during the promotions of Toxic.
Appearing on Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat, Yash was asked a rather direct question: while he became a pan-India star, why did other leading South stars such as Allu Arjun, Vijay, Ram Charan, Jr. NTR and Mahesh Babu not achieve the same status?
Yash, however, refused to look at stardom as a competition. He made it clear that he has immense respect for all the stars mentioned and believes they are doing excellent work in their respective spaces.
According to Yash, the term “pan-India star” itself should not be treated as a permanent tag. Stardom depends on the film and the impact of the work an actor delivers. Every Friday brings a new challenge, and the audience ultimately decides who stays relevant.
He also stressed that all these actors work extremely hard. For Yash, it is not about deciding who is ahead or behind. What matters is how strongly an actor connects with audiences and how long that connection lasts.
Yash further suggested that the South Indian film industry should not approach this as a race between stars. Instead, the focus should be on collectively making better films that can cross language and regional barriers.
However, Rajat Sharma’s question has not gone down well with a section of Allu Arjun fans.
Their argument is simple. After the massive success of Pushpa 2, how can Allu Arjun be described as someone who has not achieved pan-India stardom? The Pushpa franchise has built a huge Hindi-market following and, unlike several other major South Indian stars, Allu Arjun did not need a Rajamouli film to establish himself in North India.
This has now triggered another debate among fans. Is Prabhas still the only South Indian star with truly established and sustained pan-India recognition, particularly among the Hindi-speaking audience? That has also raised questions over whether Rajat Sharma, who seems to be lacking basic box-office knowledge, unintentionally overlooked Allu Arjun’s proven Hindi market pull while listing him among stars who have not achieved pan-India stardom.
The interesting part is that Yash himself did not make the comparison. Rajat Sharma did. But one question was enough to reopen a can of worms among fanbases who are doing their best to turn a perfectly diplomatic answer into another pan-India box-office war.
