The unpredictable nature of the box office has now created a new debate on social media. While sequels have long been believed to be outdated and unnecessary, a few follow-ups have unexpectedly managed to emerge as successful at the box office.
The latest example is Awarapan 2. This one benefited a lot from the franchise value and the popularity of the first part, which managed to build a fan base with repeated runs on television.
While Awarapan 2 is expected to create records at the box office, considering the opening day number of Rs. 22.5 crores, it is not the first time that such collections have been recorded. Earlier this year, two more sequels, Dhurandhar 2 and Border 2, had a good start, with the former collecting Rs. 75 crores and the latter Rs. 29.5 crores.
Compared to 2025, three sequels took an opening of almost Rs. 20 crores this year. As of now, Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3 has the highest potential of taking a similar opening or much better. Everyone is excited to see what will now happen to Vijay Salgaonkar, and with reports claiming that this is the last entry, the response is going to be outstanding.
The ongoing situation has now raised a question about whether standalone films have a chance to create a similar record. There are three big titles on the way that can be expected to do it. This includes Toxic, Ramayana, and King.
All three movies have created hype with their promotional materials, and everyone has started talking about them. While Toxic can be expected to do well, the other two will face a few obstacles.
Ramayana is already facing pressure to recover its massive budget of Rs. 4,000 crores. On the other hand, King will arrive six days after Avengers: Doomsday, which is supposed to do good business in India after the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Nothing much can be predicted until the figures for the opening day are out.
As mentioned, the unpredictable nature of the box office has started a new debate. Let’s see which one of the three big films will create records on the first day and continue having a successful run for multiple weeks.
