Yash’s Toxic: Big OTT Problem Despite Massive Opening?

Toxic OTT Rights

Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has opened to superb numbers across India, once again proving Yash’s massive pan-India stardom. However, the film is facing mixed word of mouth in theatres, and audiences are already curious about when they can watch it on OTT.

There have been reports that Zee5 acquired the digital and satellite rights of Toxic for around Rs. 235 crores across all languages. However, the latest buzz suggests that the non-theatrical deal may not have been closed yet.

According to these reports, Toxic has shockingly not sold its digital rights so far. If true, this means the makers did not get the OTT price they were expecting and decided not to settle for the offers available to them. As a result, the film was released without locking a digital deal.

That puts enormous pressure on the theatrical run.

Toxic is a big-budget film, with the reported budget crossing Rs. 600 crores. Without a major OTT deal already secured, the theatrical market now carries even more responsibility to recover the investment. The strong opening has given the makers an excellent start, but the real test will be how the film holds after the initial rush, especially with mixed reviews.

The makers have not officially confirmed whether Toxic has an OTT agreement or whether the reported Rs. 235 crore Zee5 deal is genuine. So, the latest reports should be treated as unconfirmed for now.

An OTT deal is likely to happen eventually. But if the latest reports are accurate, Toxic is currently depending much more heavily on its theatrical run to recover its massive investment.

This makes the film’s performance over the next few days even more important.
