Toxic has created a lot of buzz, although the trailer has generated a debate for multiple reasons. It is undoubtedly the next big pan-India release from the South, a long time after Pushpa 2, which came out back in 2024.
Trade experts and critics are eagerly waiting to see the worldwide collection that Toxic will record on the first day. The biggest challenge will be to surpass the numbers set by other pan-India blockbusters over the last few years. Considering that the tables turn every Friday, nothing much can be predicted.
As of now, Pushpa 2 is in the top position. It collected Rs. 294 crores worldwide. Then there is Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which accumulated Rs. 240 crores. The other two spots have been taken by RRR and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, with Rs. 223 crores and Rs. 217 crores, respectively.
Toxic has to touch Rs. 294 crores or more to set a new record at the box office. More than surpassing the numbers of Pushpa 2, the movie will need this collection to ensure that it can recover the budget, which has reportedly increased to Rs. 800 crores.
Yash has been absent from the big screen for almost four years. The announcement of Toxic came a long time after the end of K.G.F. Chapter 2’s theatrical run. Although the makers kept audiences waiting in terms of the teaser and trailer, the fact that cannot be ignored is that people kept talking about the film.
Yash’s long absence is undoubtedly going to pull audiences in all the markets, including Hindi. The movie’s opening in North India will entirely depend on whether the audience will show the same interest that was seen at the time of K.G.F. Chapter 2. Moreover, the biggest factor will be that Toxic has to deliver something new instead of repeating themes that people have already seen.
The opening day figures of K.G.F. Chapter 2 in Hindi were almost Rs. 50 crores. Based on the number that needs to be broken on Day 1, Toxic has to collect something in this range or more, which will make it easy for the film to depend on other markets for the remaining numbers.
Trade experts stated that Toxic is expected to create two different situations. It will either have a normal start at the box office, or it will surpass expectations, making it tough for the upcoming pan-India films to deliver in terms of collections and content at the same time.
With around a week left for release, let’s see if Toxic will add another blockbuster to the filmography of Yash.
