Yash’s Toxic is set to arrive in Andhra Pradesh with a significant ticket price hike. The film is reportedly being permitted to hold 6 AM special shows, with ticket prices expected to be around Rs. 500-600. The hike will reportedly continue beyond the early shows, with regular tickets during the first five days carrying an additional Rs. 50-100.
The premium pricing has already triggered sarcastic reactions on social media. Some Telugu moviegoers are joking that after giving strong support to Tamil films such as DC and Vishwanath & Sons, it is now their turn to “carry” a Kannada film.
The underlying joke is that Telugu audiences are once again being asked to contribute heavily to the business of a big-budget non-Telugu film. Telugu states have become an important market for major South Indian releases, and fans are now joking that Toxic could end up depending heavily on Telugu audiences to achieve its targets.
The same discussion has also emerged around Toxic’s overseas business. The film’s US premiere sales have reportedly received strong support from Telugu audiences. This has added fuel to the social media jokes that Telugu moviegoers are “carrying” the film not only in Andhra Pradesh but also overseas.
Interestingly, the situation is reportedly different in Telangana. Some social media users are appreciating the state government’s stricter approach towards ticket hikes. According to the ongoing reports, Toxic may not receive similar premium pricing in Telangana and could have to operate at regular ticket rates.
For Toxic, the bigger question is whether the film can justify the premium prices.
When audiences are paying Rs. 500-600 for the earliest shows, expectations naturally go up. A strong response could make the ticket hike a major advantage for the film. But if the content disappoints, the same pricing could quickly become a problem.
Ultimately, Toxic will have to prove that Telugu audiences are not just carrying the film but are getting enough value for the money they are being asked to spend.
