YouTube has become the go-to spot for watching videos in India, with a whopping 462 million people tuning in by January 2024, way ahead of the United States.
This surge is thanks in part to cheap internet, especially with JIO making it accessible to more people. People of all ages are spending about 70 minutes a day on YouTube, especially those above 35.
It’s not just about watching cute cat videos or DIY tutorials; YouTube has become a big deal in places where Hindi is spoken and in the northeastern states, even beating traditional TV. YouTube is changing India’s TV-watching habit.
And it’s not just about entertainment – YouTube offers all sorts of stuff, like quick short videos and even exclusive premium content.
With new tech like 5G and better AI tools coming in, YouTube’s popularity is only expected to grow. And it’s not just fun and games; YouTube makes a ton of money through ads, raking in about Rs 28,000 crore in a year.
But there’s still a divide – while YouTube rules in some parts, others still prefer good old TV. But no matter where you are, YouTube is changing how we all consume video content.
YouTube is even evolving to offer more than just videos – they’re introducing games and other fun stuff. And they’re getting smarter about how they show ads, especially on smart TVs.
